There is a very real difference between the mythical sex binary – where one is either totally male or female, only ever pure 100% XY or pure 100% XX, and the actual sex binary as it were – where one tends towards male or female but wherein many variations in sex development between male and female exist, thus intersex males, intersex females, those who are both male and female and those who are neither.
